Professor Kay Gallagher from Emirates College for Advanced Education presents insights into the joys of parent-child interactive shared reading for pleasure, drawing on the Fathers and Reading research project conducted in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. Emirati fathers received culturally relevant bilingual children’s books and were given tips for reading them aloud to their young children at home. Afterwards, fathers reported enjoying the new experience of shared reading for pleasure with their children, and their children greatly enjoyed being read to by their fathers.
