Who doesn’t remember an influential teacher at school?

That’s because teachers serve as the next most influential person in a child’s life outside of the home. Not only do children take their cues from their teachers, but the environment that’s created in the classroom can impact a child’s education and their entire well-being beyond creating any associations with a subject and school in general.

Creating a reading culture in the classroom requires more than just reading to children daily. It also means that teachers must be familiar with a wide range of children’s literature at different developmental stages and be readers themselves.

We recognise that this might require additional resources and training, which is why we have put together a professional development programme geared towards equipping the teachers involved in this project with the skills they need to achieve success.
